Our Story

At Peking Yummy Duck Restaurant, we are proud to bring the authentic art of Peking duck to the inner West of Melbourne. Our culinary journey began in 2008, when our Peking duck chef Edward founded Quanjude restaurant in Melbourne CBD - the first and only official overseas branch of the historic Quanjude brand outside of China at the time. Quanjude is a prestigious Peking duck chain established in Beijing in 1864, known for its authentic and traditional Peking duck, prepared using a complex and time-honoured method that has remained virtually unchanged for over a century. To this day, Peking duck is one of the iconic symbols of traditional Chinese cuisine. 

After the success of Quanjude, our team went on to open another Peking duck restaurant in Templestowe in 2020. Drawing from these experiences, Peking Yummy Duck Restaurant was born in January 2025 - continuing our commitment to delivering expertly crafted Peking duck using imported customised Beijing ovens and locally sourced Australian ducks. The preparation process, roasting techniques, and equipment remain 100% authentic.

It's also worth noting that while some variations of roast duck may feature a similar presentation, authentic Peking duck stands apart due to its unique cooking technique, flavour profile, and the specialist oven used. The preparation of true Peking duck requires years of training and expertise, and only highly skilled chefs with a deep understanding of traditional techniques can truly master the art.

Our team also boasts renowned traditional Cantonese-style chefs who have earned recognition across Melbourne. Our menu reflects a balance between time - tested Cantonese flavours and beloved Chinese dishes. We are proud to serve a diverse community of diners and have constantly received positive feedback from both Asian and Western customers. For guests looking to explore a wider variety of traditional Chinese dishes, we also offer a Chinese - language menu featuring a more regional and homestyle options. Every detail in our restaurant, from acoustic artworks to the furniture, were carefully  hand-picked and brought back from China by our team. These elements reflect the look and feel of modern Chinese dining.
